How Honey Bees and Discipleship Are Changing Lives in Rwanda

In the quiet hills of rural Rwanda, a widow named Mama Lionel was fighting a silent battle. After a prolonged drought destroyed her crops, she faced the heartbreaking decision of pulling her children out of school. With no income and few options, despair was setting in until hope arrived in an unexpected form.

A team from SEKA Ministries visited her village not just with words of encouragement, but with practical tools for restoration. Through the Honey Bee & Discipleship Initiative, Mama Lionel joined 20 other villagers in learning the art of beekeeping, business skills rooted in Christian stewardship, and community leadership shaped by faith.

In her very first season, she harvested15 liters of golden honey. The earnings helped her buy school uniforms, cover her children’s school fees, and reinvest in two additional hives. Her small apiary became a source of income and dignity.

But her most profound transformation was not financial. Through SEKA’s holistic discipleship model, Mama Lionel encountered a renewed sense of purpose. She joined Bible study groups, found spiritual healing, and now leads a fellowship circle for other women in her community. Once discouraged and overlooked, she now stands as a mentor and leader shining with hope.
